PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT - PDF

Your company might be using already pdf files to a large extent, but if not you might want to consider introducing this format as a standard document format in your company.

What Is PDF?

Portable document format is a file format that displays its content independent of the operating system. Whether you look at a pdf file on a Mac, PC or Linux work station, the content will always look exactly the same way. That might not sound like rocket science to you, but it is a tricky proposition and there are actually very few tools that can achieve the same what pdf can do.

Is PDF a Document Storage Format?

Yes and no. It is most widely used to store forms and documents, but pdf can do much more than that. Its content can be searched and it is possible to use pdf as an input device for data capture, although it is not really recommended for web operations.

How Do I Generate a PDF File?

You use either Adobe's Acrobat software, which is the Rolls-Royce of pdf generating software, or any of the other software packages that are in the market, most of which are much cheaper than Acrobat. However, Acrobat offers advanced features that you might not need. If you have TravelObjects, our content and document management system, it's much easier: you select the content from the database and generate a pdf file just like you would setup an html page; that's all.
